MNOs in emerging markets should use their existing cellular network assets to help roll out FTTP

Mobile network operators (MNOs) in many countries are looking to enter the fixed broadband market by deploying FTTP networks. However, FTTP roll-outs can have high costs per premises passed, so MNOs need to implement solutions to reduce these costs. In this article, we examine the opportunity for MNOs to reuse existing cell sites and backhaul for their FTTP deployments. We focus on emerging markets where there are opportunities for MNOs to roll out FTTP, either because the fixed broadband space is underpenetrated or because there are no available wholesale FTTP offers or limited infrastructure sharing regulations.
