The Nokia’s cloud-RAN solution: trials demonstrate the benefits to operators in the 5G era
About 40% of operator opex comes from site rentals and power spending and both of these costs will increase as 5G networks are deployed. Nokia has trialled its cloud-RAN architecture with its MNO customers to demonstrate what cost savings can be delivered.
MNOs must choose their RAN virtualisation strategy to address 5G deployment challenges and deliver the same level of coverage as is currently provided by 4G networks.
THIS CASE STUDY PROVIDES:
- an overview of the challenges that MNOs face as they prepare to deploy 5G
- an analysis of MNOs’ opex and the reasons for pursuing a cloud-RAN trial with Nokia
- an overview of Nokias cloud-RAN solution and the benefits of the architecture.
