GlobalDatas "Mining Software - Global Mine Site Survey of Investment Status and Supplier Choice, 2021 analyses the results of interviews with key personnel at over 150 operating mines across the globe in relation to their investment status in mine planning and management software. It also analyses software supplier information from 632 active mines and projects from across the globe to indicate the leading software suppliers by region and mine type.
Investment levels are high in mine planning software, with 48% of respondents having fully implemented mine planning software, versus 39% having fully implemented mine management software, with majors having invested to a greater extent than non-majors for both types. Investment levels were highest in Australasia and Africa.
Despite extensive investment to date, 31% of mines expect to invest further in mine planning software and 34% in mine management software in the next two years, with the highest shares in American and Australasian mines.
Overall Dassault Systemes, supplier of the Geovia mining software, was the most popular choice, used at 36% of the 632 mines tracked. It was also the most popular in surface mines and across Asia, North America and a combined Europe, the Middle East and the Former Soviet Union.
In second place overall was Datamine, which was used at 26% of the mines surveyed, and the most popular amongst underground mines and in Africa.
In third place was Maptek, whose products include Vulcan, which was used at 20% of mines overall and was ranked highest in Australasia and second place in North America.
Other significant suppliers included Deswik, Seequent, Autodesk and Hexagon (the latter including Blast Movement Technologies), which were used at between 13% and 15% of mines overall. Deswik was well-placed in Africa and also amongst underground mines, whilst Seequent was highest-placed in South and Central America.
