- To overcome the limitations of the existing instant payment solution Straks-betalinger, Norges Bank, banking and finance infrastructure company Bits, and Norwegian banks rolled out an updated version called Straks 2.0. From April 2020, Norwegian banks started using the new infrastructure for real-time payments. Earlier in 2017, leading Nordic banks collaborated to develop the P27 Nordic Payments Platform. Banks involved included Danske Bank, Handelsbanken, Nordea, OP Financial Group, SEB, and Swedbank. The platform aims to provide an integrated cross-border payment system for people in the region. However, in March 2019, DNB decided not to participate in the P27 project. The Solution is likely to be launched in 2021 across Nordic countries except Norway.
- COVID-19 has accelerated demand for secure, digital commerce solutions worldwide - with more consumers and businesses than ever before embracing digital payments as the preferred way to manage their everyday spending. In September 2020, Visa and Vipps (a major digital wallet in Norway) announced a strategic partnership to accelerate mobile payments in Europe.
