Military Satellites - COVID-19 - Sector Impact Analysis
As identified by Undersecretary of Defense Ellen Lords in March, three industries are currently highly exposed to fallout from COVID-19. These are aerospace, shipbuilding and small satellite launch. The US space segment overall is especially vulnerable for two distinct key reasons. Firstly, the primary customer is the commercial sector, to the tune of a 4:1 ratio in funding terms. The commercial reliance for funding means the shutdown and closures have a very big impact on the sector, with many of these workers not being classified as essential workers.
The other key vulnerability for the satellite market is the large proportion of the supply chain that is made up of small businesses, with small businesses especially vulnerable to the COVID-19 crisis, as well as the most pressing impact point: cash liquidity. The following slides demonstrate the military satellite sector vulnerability to the cash flow issues brought on by the COVID-19 crisis, as well as specific workforce issues and the reliance on commercial activity in the sector.
In particular, the report provides an in-depth analysis of the following -
- The report is to understand the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on the military satellites sector.
