The Joint Working Group (JWG) comprising Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOC), Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), a subsidiary of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and Mauritius State Trading Corporation (STC) are jointly planning to construct an oil storage terminals in Albion, Mauritius.
The project involves the construction of oil storage tanks with the total volume of 528,000 metric tonnes (MT) on 46ha area and will be implemented in two phases.
The project also involves the construction of a 600m jetty with a draft of about 20m, a control building, a metering station, a fuel control system and related facilities, and the installation of temperature control systems, and the laying of pipelines.
In November 2014, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) is signed between STC, IOC and the MRPL for the proposed development.
JWG conducted the pre-feasibility study for the project during the period of 2015-2016.
In September 2016, the project secured the grant of US$200 million from the government of India (GoI) for the construction of the jetty.
On May 8, 2017, Engineers India Ltd (EIL) was appointed to undertake the detailed feasibility study.
Construction works are expected to commence in 2018 with completion in 2021.
