McMaster University (MU) is undertaking the construction of a multi-purpose student housing complex in Ontario, Canada.
The project involves the construction of a 12-story 33,352m2 multi-purpose building. It includes the construction of an eight-story housing complex, on top floors, to accommodate 500 students, and the remaining floors will feature classrooms, informal study spaces and student services.
The project includes the construction of a student wellness center, student accessibility services, a recreation facility, meeting rooms, in-unit kitchens, food prep areas, parking and related facilities, and the installation of elevators, and safety and security devices.
Diamond Schmitt Architects has been appointed as architect, VanBoxmeer & Stranges Ltd. as structural engineer and WSP/MMM Group Ltd. as mechanical/electrical engineer.
In June 2015, MUs board approved the project plans.
On August 6, 2015, MU issued request for qualification (RfQ) looking for a private partner/developer. The building would be a joint project between the developer and the MC. The developer will also be responsible for designing, building and manage the facility.
On October 9, 2015, the RFQ submission process was completed.
In the fourth quarter 2016, groundbreaking ceremony held.
Construction works are underway and expected to be completed by August 2019.
