Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Inc. (Tri-State) is planning to undertake the construction of a transmission line project in New Mexico, the US.

The project involves the laying of a 185km, 230kV transmission line. It will include the construction of substations and related facilities, the installation of electric feeder systems, and the laying of electric line.

In May 2013, Tri-State is studying a new 230kV transmission alternative to increase electric system reliability in the San Luis Valley region of southern Colorado and northern New Mexico.

Allen, Williford & Seale, Inc (AWS) has been appointed as study consultant.

In March 2015, the project has been put on hold due to potential delays and additional costs of getting permission for different sections of the transmission line.

However, in November 2017, the stalled plans were revived and planning activities are underway with completion scheduled in 2022.

Scope


The project involves the construction of a 185km, 230kV transmission line from a substation north of Alamosa to a site west of Taos in New Mexico, the US.

The US$58 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of transmission tower bases

2. Construction of distribution substations

3. Construction of related facilities

4. Installation of electric feeder systems
