The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) is undertaking the construction of the Photovoltaic Solar Power Plant project at El Quweira, Jordon.

The project involves the construction of a photovoltaic power plant with a capacity of 103MW is set to generate around 20MW per hour.

The project includes the construction of a powerhouse, substation and solar panel platforms, the installation of solar panels, generators, turbines, heat exchangers and steam turbine generators and the laying of transmission lines.

Arab Bank and Gulf Cooperation Council will provide funds.

In 2013, MEMR issued expressions of interest (EOI) for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor on April 11, 2013, as submission deadline. In addition to installing the PV plant, the contract will involve the provision of all required civil infrastructure works including access and internal roads, and the provision of operation and maintenance services when the facility is completed.

Sixty companies submitted EOI. In October 2013, 15 companies namely ABB (Switzerland), Acciona Energia (Spain), Belectric Solarkraftwerke (Germany), Constructora Sanjose (Spain), Elecnor (Spain), First Solar Electric (US), Gestamp Asetym Solar, Hanwha Q Cells (Germany), Isolux Ingenieria (Spain), Juwi International (Germany), Larsen & Toubro (India), Solar World (US), Sterling & Wilson (India), Sunedison Italia Construction, TSK Electronica Electricidad (Spain) were pre-qualified.

However, after a delay, on November 6, 2014, MEMR re-opened the prequalification process after making minor changes to the scope with December 18, 2014, as submission deadline.

Jordans Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will fund US$150 million (Dh470.14 million) through a grant from Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.

In December 2015, Enviromena Power Systems and TSK Group were appointed as construction contractors.

The construction is scheduled to commence in September 2017 and complete by December 2017.

The project involves the construction of a photovoltaic solar power plant with a capacity of 103MW at El Quweira, Jordon.
