Republic of Srpska (RoS) is undertaking the construction of a Drina River Hydroelectric Power Plants project in Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The project involves the construction of four run-of-river hydropower plants with a total capacity of about 210MW power. The four hydroelectric power plants (HPP) named as Buk Bijela, Foca, Paunci and Sutjeska.
The project involves the construction of a 94MW Buk Bijela hydroelectric power plant.
The project includes the construction of a powerhouse, a substation, access roads and related infrastructure, the installation of generator, transformers and the laying of transmission lines.
Buk Bijela HPP includes the construction of rockfill dam with clay core, spillways, intakes and pressure tunnels, a cavern-type power house with four 112.5MW turbo-generators and accessory equipment and a switchyard.
In 2011, RoS had tendered a strategic partnership agreement of the project and signed a contract with RWE Innogy and Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske (ERS) to develop, construct and operate the project on September 26, 2012.
In June 2013, RoS has cancelled the contract with RWE Innogy and ERS due to non-fulfillment of the conditions according to the agreement.
On July 12, 2016, RoS reinstated and signed an agreement with a consortium organized by state-owned utility Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske (ERS) and its subsidiary Hidroelektrane na Drini for the construction and operation of Buk Bijela HPP.
In June 2017, Government of the Republic of Srpska (RS) has approved signing of the Memorandum of cooperation with China National Aero-Technology International Engineering Corporation (AVIC-ENG).
In March 2018, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) and the China Export and Credit Insurance Corporation (SINOSURE) expressed interest in providing funding for the Buk Bijela project.
