The City Rail Link Limited (CRLL) is undertaking the construction of Inner City Rail Loop project in Auckland, New Zealand.
The project involves the construction of two 3.5km underground tunnels.
The new rail line will extend the existing rail line through Britomart, Albert, Vincent and Pitt streets, then beneath Karangahape Road and the Central Motorway Junction to Symonds Street before rising to join the western line near Eden Terrace. The twin tunnels will be built up to 45m below the city center.
It includes the construction of three new stations at Newton, Aotea Square, and Karangahape Road.
The construction works will be executed in different phases.
The Green Party would offer 60% central Government funding in addition to council money to get the rail link built in future.
In May 2014, Mott MacDonald was awarded the engineering design contract. The scope of the contract covers the design of the stations and the mechanical and electrical systems.
In April 2015, the two consortiums were appointed as the design contractors for first phase construction of the project. the first consortium of Downer NZ and Soletanche Bachy has been appointed for across Lower Queen St to the Downtown Shopping Centre and the second consortium of McConnell Dowell and Hawkins has been appointed for digs trenches from there to Wyndham St. The contract value is US$2.27 million. The next phase of the development of the project will include a negotiated contract for the construction of twin tunnels of the City Rail Link.
Project will receive 50% funding from the New Zealand central government.
APB&B group comprising of AECOM New Zealand Ltd, WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff, Beca Group Ltd and Hassell has been appointed as the study consultant for the project.
Aurecon SA has been appointed as lead consultant; Rob law max as project manager; Richard Paling Consulting as planning consultant; Styles Group as Acoustic and vibration consultant; Clough & Associates Ltd as environmental consultant.
In April 2014, grimshaw was appointed as design consultant.
In June 2015, planning approval received.
Soilmec and Trevi Construction were appointed as machinery suppliers for installation of a new stormwater pipe along Albert St.
In December 2015, Enabling works commenced on the project along with the installation of stormwater pipe along Albert St.
On January 27, 2016, Final outlined plan is approved by the government.
In March 2016, Site preparation activities were commenced at Lower Queen Street to start digging for tunnels.
On June 2, 2016, groundbreaking ceremony was held at Britomart station for construction of an underground rail line linking Britomart and the city center to the western line near Mt Eden.
On July 13, 2016, Downer NZ and Soletanche Bachy JV was appointed as Contractor for first phase construction works.
In July 2016, construction works were commenced at Britomart station which involves the temporary station entrance and ticket booking counter.
In November 2016, piling works commenced on Albert Street site.
In January 2017, Expressions of Interest is being sought for the design, procurement, installation, and commissioning of all tunnel track work and rail systems between Britomart Station and the Western Line at Mt Eden.
On January 18, 2017, the Invitation to submit an EOI for tunnel track-work and railway systems, integration, testing, and commissioning was issued, with a submission date of February 20, 2017.
On February 1, 2017, the invitation to submit a Pre Qualification for construction of stations and tunnels was issued, with a submission date of March 01, 2017.
In March 2017, a new concept plan showing the potential of a reinstated Albert Street was revealed.
