Berlin Brandenberg Flughfen Holding (BBF) is undertaking the expansion of the Brandenburg International airport in South Berlin, Germany.
The project involves the construction of a six story passenger terminal building with 220m long and 180m wide, a 720m long main pier, two 300m long north and south piers, two parallel take-off and landing runways, parallel taxiways, bridges over the high-speed rail line to control traffic, shops and restaurants, a departure lounge with gross floor area 280,000m2, a 72m tall air traffic control tower, an underground six-track railway station with three platforms, 65 aircraft parking stands facilities, a checkpoint with eight check-in counters, an eight baggage reclaim carousels hall and related facilities.
In second quarter of 2003, the project secured official construction permit.
gmp Generalplanungsgesellschaft mbH and JSK Dipl. Ing. Architekten designed the project.
In second quarter of 2006, BAM Deutschland AG and Max Bgl Bauunternehmung GmbH & Co. KG were appointed to carry out the structural shell work of terminal.
K. Rogge Spezialbau GmbH and Trockenbau Mnchen GmbH were appointed as EPC contractors to carry out metal construction work for the passenger terminal.
In September 2006, the construction work was commenced on passenger terminal.
In October 2007, the EPC contract has been awarded to STRABAG.
In September 2007, was awarded road construction contract to Porr Deutschland GmbH and Matthai Bauunternehmen.
Vdw Gebrder von der Wettern GmbH and EUROVIA Verkehrsbau Union GmbH has been awarded contract to carry out the runway activities.
European Investment Bank (EIB) provided US$1,409 million loan in two installments.
In December 2008, EIB approved US$563.81 in the first installment and on July 1, 2009 approved US$848.66 million loan in the second installment for the project.
The local banks including KfW IPEX-Bank, Investitionsbank Berlin IBB, Investitionsbank des Landes Brandenburg ILB, Landesbank Berlin Nord LB, DZ Bank and Berliner Volksbank to provide the loan US$1,973.34 million for the project.
Seele GmbH was appointed to supply and installation of facade for the project.
Drees & Sommer was appointed as lead consultant.
Imtech Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG and Caverion Deutschland GmbH has been awarded a contract to carry out the installation of heating and cooling systems, sanitation and fire extinguishing technology, and electrical engineering.
In June 2011, Porr Deutschland GmbH and Matthai Bauunternehmen completed road construction work for the project.
In June 2012, the project completion was delayed as it was not able achieve a fully automated operation and was scheduled to complete in March 2013.
In January 2013, the project completion was again delayed due to massive structural defects at the airport facilities.
In September 2013, the project was rescheduled to be completed by 2016.
In August 2015, Imtech bankruptcy delayed the project.
In April 2015, BBF issued Metalworking tender and Marble and Calcareous building stone tender for the project.
In the second quarter of 2015, Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH announces Signage tender, joinery and carpentry installation work tender, plasterboard works tender and false floors tenders for the project.
On January 8, 2016, project management contract was awarded to THOST Projektmanagement GmbH and prb Consult GmbH & Co. KG.
A roofing contract to Isotech AFF Abdichtung Fassade Fuge GmbH; a metal and glass work contract was awarded to Metal and Glass Work Contractor: Bilfinger Fassadentechnik GmbH, Pazdera AG and Boetker GmbH & Co. KG.
On January 29, 2016, Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH issued a Construction-site supervision services tender and the tender submission deadline was February 23, 2016. The contract will be awarded on July 1, 2016.
On August 8, 2016, an engineering service contract was awarded to Dorsch International Consultants GmbH.
On August 16, 2016, an electrical consulting contract was awarded to IPN Ingenieurbro Pilz und Nippe PartGmbB, beratende Ingenieure.
In October 2016, the construction permit approved for a new smoke extraction system building.
