Al Maabar International Investments (Al Maabar) and Libyan Investment and Development Company (LIDCO) joint venture is constructing the Al Waha Mixed-Use Development project in Libya.

The project involves the construction of mixed-use facilities on 4ha of land with 145,000m2 of built-up facilities.

The project includes the construction of a 20-story, 36,538m2 hotel comprising 230 rooms, 100 serviced office spaces, health club, indoor and outdoor upscale pools, fitness area and a spa, conference and banqueting areas comprising four syndicate meeting rooms, a ballroom and multipurpose facilities for up to 800 persons and the installation of elevators.

The project includes a 23-story, 55,708m2 office building. It includes the construction of retail space amenities which includes hypermarket, restaurants, fast food outlets and assorted retailers, parking facility for 1,107 vehicles and related facilities and the installation of elevators.

Atkins has been appointed as architect, Ramboll engineering as consultant and Argus as engineering consultant for the project.

In October 2012, the project was placed on hold but was re-initiated in April 2013. However, the project size was reduced from an earlier 31-story hotel tower to 20-story and a 28-story office block to 23-story decreasing the investment from US$375 million to US$200 million.

Fand Trading and Contracting WLL has been appointed to provide design and build services including structural and infrastructure engineering.

Hill International, Inc. has been appointed as management contract.

In March 2016, construction works commenced.

The project involves the construction of mixed-use facilities on a 4ha of land with 145,000m2 of built-up facilities along Airport Road at Pepsi Street in Tripoli, Libya.

The US$620 million project includes the following:

1. Construction of a 20-story luxury hotel with 230 rooms, 100 serviced office spaces.

2. Construction of a 23-story office building

3. Construction of an office facility

4. Construction of indoor and outdoor swimming pools

5. Construction of a fitness area and a spa

6. Construction of conference and banqueting areas

7. Construction of a ballroom and multi-purpose facilities for up to 800 persons

8. Construction of a hypermarket

9. Construction of restaurants

10. Construction of fast food outlets

11. Construction of a parking facility for 1,107 vehicles

12. Installation of elevators
