Summary


The Ministry of Transport and Communication (MoTC) is undertaking the construction of a four-lane dual carriageway in Oman.

The project involves the construction of 715km four-lane dual carriageway and is planned to be implemented in six-segments.

The project will include the construction of service roads, supporting walls, road separators, pedestrian ways, toll stations and other infrastructural facilities, and the laying of street lines.

In July 2012, MoTC awarded a contract to Parsons Corporation to provide design and construction supervision services. The contract scope includes the alignment study and finalization, traffic study and analysis, preliminary and detailed design, tender documents, and construction supervision.

In September 2013, MoTC issued tenders for the construction contractor for first and second segments with December 2, 2013 as the submission deadline. On March 17, 2014, the tenders were opened for both the segments.

Nine local and international firms submitted bids for the first two segments. Galfar Engineering and Contracting, Strabag Oman LLC, Ozkar Construction Co, Consolidated Contractors Co, GTGC, Dogus Construction Oman LLC and Khalid Bin Ahmed & Sons LLC submitted bids for first and second segments, while Sarooj Construction Co. and Simplex Infrastructures submitted bids for first segment only.

In November 2014, Ghantoot Transport and Contracting Establishment was awarded US$285 million and Consolidated Contractors Company was awarded US$236 million construction contracts for first and second segments (total length of 240km) respectively.

In March 2015, construction on the first two segments commenced.

In January 2017, construction works on the first two segments are underway.

Construction works on the first two segments are underway and are scheduled to be complete by the first quarter of 2019 and the remaining four segments are awaiting for financial approval.

The US$600 million project includes the following:
