BIS Bremerhavener Gesellschaft fr Investitionsfrderung und Stadtentwicklung mbH (BIS) is undertaking the construction of the Cherbourger Road Harbour Tunnel in Bremerhaven, Bremen, Germany.
The project involves the construction of a two-lane road tunnel from east-west direction at south of Cherbourger road links between ports and the A27 motorway, entrance and exit ramps, two administrative buildings and 10 escape staircases, an 1,195m long tunnel tube with two-way traffic, two separate tubes with length of 1,848m at the north side and 1,659m at the south side, and related facilities.
Zerna Baumanagement GmbH has been appointed as civil engineer.
ZETCON Ingenieure GmbH was appointed as a structural engineer.
In September 2014, BIS awarded a construction contract to a joint venture (JV), consisting of Ed. Zblin AG (technical leader/JV share 37%), Hochtief Solutions AG (commercial leader/JV share 33%) and Zblin Spezialtiefbau GmbH (JV share 30%) for the project.
In October 2014, site-preparation activities were underway. The tunnel will be developed using open cut construction method.
In January 2015, the main construction work was commenced and is scheduled for completion in early 2019.
Bremerhaven Hafenwirtschaft will provide US$20.25 fund, Bremen State will provide US$162 million funds, Bremerhaven City will provide US$12.15 million in funding, and Bundesministerium fr Verkehr und digitale Infrastruktur will provide US$67.51 million for the project.
