Samsung Deal – Ontario All Set to Become a Leader in Green Power Development Summary The provincial government of Ontario, Canada recently signed a US$6.7 billion deal with the South Korean consortium of Samsung and Korea Electrical Power Corporation (KEPC) to develop green energy projects in the region. The recently concluded deal is a reflection of the attraction of the province in renewable energy due to the Green Energy and Green Economy Act enacted by the provincial government in 2009. The deal is a major initiative that would enable the Ontario government to achieve the provincial target to strengthen the province’s renewable energy value chain as well as provide opportunities for the industry stake-holders in the region. The deal has showcased the government’s commitment towards its green energy initiatives.
