Summary
On June 19, 2011, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) power plant in Riviera
Beach was demolished in preparation for the construction of FPL Riviera Beach
Next Generation Clean Energy Center (Riviera Beach Energy Center). Scheduled to
begin operations in 2014, the new plant will use high-efficiency, combined-cycle
natural gas technology to produce up to 1,250 MW of electricity serving
approximately 250,000 of FPL 4.5 million customers. One of ‘America most
admired companies’, FPL, through this project will create almost $20m tax
revenue in total. This investment also highlights how the company maintains its
strong hold in the market by creating benefits for its customers and local
communities with available land and water resources.
