Date : 22nd - 23rd July 2009 Venue : Crowne Plaza Hotel, Beijing, China
Microinsurance has been generating increasing interest and momentum here in Asia, with Asia now taking a significant leading position in pushing Microinsurance. In recognition of this immense market opportunity, a number of commercial insurers have entered this space globally, forming partnerships with large distributors to meet the strong demand.
Asia Insurance Review is therefore pleased to bring the 3rd Asian Conference on Microinsurance to Beijing, China, the most populous country in the world now with its 1.3 billion people, to look at challenges and opportunities in the important role that Microinsurance plays, not only for this market, but across Asia. Whilst China’s remarkable economic growth in recent years has helped millions of Chinese out of poverty, the challenges still remain massive to ensure that risks are covered. The Chinese government is therefore focusing on pushing microinsurance and microfinance to the masses – in 2007 alone, China invested more than 2.7 billion yuan in subsidies for such development in rural areas, making China a very relevant venue for this year’s conference.
This year’s theme “Microinsurance as an Attractive Growth Strategy in the Changing Economic Landscape” will look at how Asia as a whole has embraced microinsurance and how the various markets are pushing microinsurance – the programme will look at policy reforms, key challenges, and how to support microinsurance in the current challenging fi nancial landscape. Aside from looking at underwriting and claims issues, the programme is designed to evaluate key success strategies, initiatives in product innovation, marketing microinsurance and distribution channels as well as looking at microinsurance as a growth strategy for the insurance industry, and to look for opportunities amidst the current changing economic landscape.
The event will bring together experts including representatives from international organisations, NGOs, development-aid agencies, insurance and reinsurance companies, academics, policymakers and regulators.
Opportunities abound in the world of microinsurance – there is a dire need to heighten the awareness of microinsurance in helping to fi ll the needs of the masses in rural populations and the insurance industry plays a massive and significant role.
