Summary
Kermanshah Urban Railway Organization (KURO) plans to undertake the construction of a light rail transit (LRT) in Kermanshah, Iran.
The project involves the construction of a 13km partly elevated and an underground two-level passageway. It includes the construction of 13 stations, tunnels, bridges, underground/overhead stations, a maintenance, and storage facility and parking spaces and the installation of rail tracks, light and signaling systems and decks.
The project will be developed in two phases.
The first phase will extend from Tejarat Square to Azadi Square and the second phase from Azadi Square to Ferdowsi Square.
The first phase includes the construction of 8km LRT with 6.5km from the "Square of the Takhtab" to "Sahar 22 Bahman" in the form of an underground passage and 1.5km from "Shahar 22 Bahman" to "Freedom Square". It also includes the construction of eight stations (six air stations and two underground stations) and a tunnel with a length of 1.6km from Teachers Square to Azadi Square.
Hexa Consulting Engineers has been appointed as an engineering consultant. Tom Iran Khodro Co was awarded the EPC contract with a contract value of US$311 million.
In January 2014, tunnel studies commenced on the route from Shahar 22 to Ferdowsi Square.
In February 2014, deck installation works began.
On July 1, 2014, construction and reinforcement of columns for LRT began.
Deck installation works on the project are underway. Simultaneously, study activities on the tunnel are on-going. The construction on the first phase of the project is expected to be completed by 2022.

The Kermanshah LRT development project involves the construction of a 13km partly elevated and an underground LRT between Ferdowsi Square to Taq Bastan Square, Kermanshah, Iran.
