The project involves the upgrade of a 24km railway line. It includes the construction of support structures, railway stations, bridges, flyovers and related infrastructure, the installation of signaling and safety systems, information boards, and the laying of railway tracks.
JASPERS managed by the European Investment Bank and co-sponsored by the European Commission (EU) and European Bank for Reconstruction & Development approved the financial assistance for the project. The acceptable cost to be covered by the EU funds stands at US$95 million.
On December 22, 2017, HZIL received bids for the project.
In March 2018, Swietelsky d.o.o was appointed as the construction contractor.
Construction is expected to commence in the third quarter of 2018, and is scheduled to be complete by the third quarter of 2021.
