Sunderland City Council (SCC) and South Tyneside Council (STC) are planning to build a manufacturing park in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, the UK.
The project involves the construction of a 260,000m2 international advanced manufacturing park on 100ha of land. It includes the construction of research and development space, industrial buildings, manufacturing units, productions units, warehouses, distribution units, office space, administrative space, access roads, parking and other related infrastructure.
Arup Group Ltd, through a joint venture with Urbed, BNP Paribas, Pinsent Masons and Local Dialogue, has been appointed as the lead consultant to provide master planning and environmental impact assessment.
In February 2013, Government invited SCC and STC to submit a city deal proposal for the project.
In June 2014, SCC and STC secured bid approval for the growth plans under the second wave of the Governments City deals program from the government.
On February 23, 2015, SCC and STC commenced a public consultation on the project and closed on March 27, 2015.
In September 2015, the project was approved as Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project(NSIP).
On December 9, 2015, SCC and STC commenced a public consultation on the project and closed on February 3, 2016.
On August 8, 2016, a public consultation held until October 10, 2016.
On February 6, 2017, a draft for the project area Action Plan, together with proposed modifications, was formally submitted to the Secretary of State and Planning Inspectorate (SSPI).
In February 2017, the project received US$45 million Government funding through the Local Growth Fund, towards the infrastructure works.
In the first quarter of 2018, SCC and STC have submitted the planning application and waiting for approvals.
