The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) of Little Rock District in collaboration with the Little Rock Air Force Base (AFB) is undertaking the redevelopment of a runway in Pulaski County, Arkansas, the US.
The project involves the replacement of the 365.76-by-60.96m wide runway with a 3657.6-by-45.72m wide runway to include lighting and communications upgrades and incidental work. Construction works are going to be carried out in six phases.
The first phase includes installing a new haul road, a temporary taxiway, a new electrical ductbank, and temporary striping. The second phase includes an overlay of the secondary assault strip and the demolition and replacement of 1.8km of the primary runway.
The runway project is funded through the Air Forces operation and maintenance budget and managed by the Little Rock District.
Pond & Company has been appointed as Engineering Consultant for providing full design services for the repair by replacement of Runway 07-25 at Little Rock Air Force Base.
On September 3, 2014, Sundt Construction Inc was awarded a US$107.9 million contract to repair the existing runway.
In February 2016, 18% works are completed on construction.
Construction work on the second phase is underway.
