The Health Service Executive (HSE) is undertaking the construction of a mental hospital in Dublin, Ireland.

The project involves the construction of a National Forensic Mental Health Service (NFMHS) Hospital, including the National Forensic Hospital (NFH) on a 13ha area. The project will be constructed in two phases.

The 170 bedroom NFMHS Hospital will comprise the 120-bed National Forensic Hospital, a 10-bed Forensic Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit (CAMH-F), a 10-bed Forensic Mental Health Intellectual Disability Unit (MHID-F), 30-bed Intensive Care Rehabilitation Unit (ICRU) totaling to 24,000m2, all on a single campus.

BPS planning consultants has been appointed as planner, Scott Tallon Walker as architect, Mitchell + Associates as landscape architect, Punch Consulting Engineers as traffic consultant, PMCE Ltd and Waterman Moylan Consulting Engineers Limited as consulting engineers, Carrig Building Fabric Consultants as fabrication consultant, JV Tierney Consulting Engineers and Awn Consulting as design consultants, Aecom Ltd as lead consultant, RPS Environment and Planning Pty Ltd as environmental consultant and Turner & Townsend Plc as project manager.

In September 2014, HSE filed Strategic Infrastructure Development (SID) planning application to An Bord Pleanala.

In March 2015, the HSEs planning application was under consideration by An Bord Pleanala.

In June 2015, project received planning approval.

On June 15, 2015, tenders were issued with a submission deadline July 27, 2015.

In January 2016, groundbreaking ceremony held, marking the start of enabling works.

On December 14, 2016, a JV between Obrascn Huarte Lain (OHL) and J J Rhatigan & Company Ltd was awarded US$133 million construction contract for the project, however the official agreement was signed in June 2017.

In May 2017, site clearance and demolition works were completed and the main construction is scheduled to commence by end of June or July 2017.

The construction activities are slated for completion by 2020.

The project involves the construction of a National Forensic Mental Health Service (NFMHS) Hospital, including the National Forensic Hospital (NFH) on a 13ha of land in the western portion of the overall grounds of St Itas Hospital at Portrane, Dublin County, Ireland.
