The Region of Southern Denmark (Region Syddanmark) and Hospital of Southern Jutland (Sygehus Snderjylland) are jointly undertaking the expansion of a hospital in Denmark.

The project involves the expansion the Hospital of Southern Jutland into an acute hospital. The expansion is placed in connection with the existing hospital and will increase the hospital from the current 25,600m2 to 69,600m2. The project is to being executed out in two stages.

First Stage: The US$82 million includes the construction of 22,000m2 facility mainly in the southern and southeastern part of the hospital site to increase number of beds from 127 to 216. It includes the construction of a family house comprising obstetrics, maternity, neonatal and pediatric departments and psychiatry outpatient clinic for children and young people, a central sterile room, a goods reception, cardiological bed section, outpatient department, a laboratory, two operating rooms for gynaecology/obstetrics, a reception kitchen, a shared acute reception, surgical ward, intensive care unit (ICU), a multi-story car park, office, research and training facilities, connecting passages and basement/shell, and the installation of 12 new elevators and two emergency power generators (630KVA to 1250KVA).

It also includes the alterations in the existing emergency room, and an extension of a new emergency center on top of the emergency room, extension of operating rooms, and the preparation for a tunnel, which will run from the new helipad for emergency department.

The first stage project team includes Alectia as lead consultant; Aarhus Arkitekterne and Creo Arkitekter as architects; Sren Jensen, Balslev and Oluf Jrgensen as design consultants; BLCHER as supply contractor for entire drainage and roof drainage system; Wicotec Kirkebjerg as plumbing contractor; and Caverion and KNX Association as sub-contractor for electrical work.

Alectias services includes the planning of ventilation, programming of a new central sterile department and managing equipment supplies, programming of a new goods reception and a waste station, execution of installation projects on the goods reception, logistics planning, as well as supervision of all heating, ventilation and sanitation work.

In May 2012, NCC Construction was awarded EPC contract for the first stage.

On May 30, 2012, Sygehus Snderjylland broke ground for the first stage of the project. Construction work was completed in August 2014 and was officially inaugurated in January 2015.

Second Stage: The US$103 million includes the construction of 30,000m2 (of which about 21,000m2 of new construction) further floors with bed sections on the top of the new family house and extension of the treatment areas. It includes the construction of 120 single rooms with private bathrooms, a new intensive care unit, a new helipad, new bed building with private wards and outpatient clinics, laboratory center and a new ICU.

The second stage project team includes COWI as lead consultant, Friis & Moltke as design consultant, Ravn Architecture as architect, and Moller & Grnborg as landscape architect.

On May 26, 2015, the Aabenraa Municipality approved the proposal for the second stage of the project.

On September 19, 2016, seven companies have submitted bids for the project development.

On September 30, 2016, Region Syddanmark selected five pre-qualified bidders including 5E Byg A / S, Hoffmann A / S, Max Bgl & Jorgen Friis Poulsen I / S, MT Hjgaard A / S and NCC Denmark A/S and requested to submit the initial bids by December 2, 2016, and final bids by January 26, 2017.

On March 27, 2017, 5E BYG A/S has been appointed as EPC contractor for second stage.

Construction works on second stage are scheduled to start on August 17, 2017 and complete by fourth quarter of 2021.
