Summary
The Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT) is undertaking construction of a road segment from Batschenga to Ngaoundr in Cameroon.
The project involves the construction of a 597km road segment, subdivided into three phases.
The first phase covers the section between Batschenga to Yoko via Ntui, with a total length of 203.7km; the second phase covers a 180km stretch from Yoko to Tibati via Doum; and the third phase from Tibati to Ngaoundere via Mambal and Lewa, with a length of 214km.
MINEPAT is set to provide specific importance for the development of the first phase for the project with the construction of a 4m wide carriageway and a 400m double girder bridge on River Sanaga.
In August 2007, the African Development Bank (AfDB) initiated a general project identification mission to the Government of Cameroon (GoC).
In 2009, the GoC included a provision in its budget for the start-up of the study on the first phase and requested AfDB towards the funding of the related studies and works through MINEPAT.
Subsequently, on May 25, 2009, AfDB published a memorandum of the study carried for the first phase of the project, concluding that an AfDB loan not exceeding US$5 million be granted to the Republic of Cameroon to finance the foreign exchange cost and part of the local currency cost of the study on the road section.
On November 26, 2014, GoC approved to fund US$427 million towards the development primarily through the AfDB with US$190 million.
On March 5, 2015, GoC and the Government of Japan entered into a US$43 million loan agreement towards the funding of the first phase.
The first phases are divided into four lots.Lot 1 has been awarded to RAZEL-BEC SAS, while on June 20, 2017, Lot 2 and Lot 3 has been awarded to Group Elevators and Lot 4 has been awarded to Synohidro.
