DONG Energy A/S (DONG) is constructing a biomass plant in Kalundborg, Denmark.
The project involves the conversion of a coal-fired plant to a biomass plant. It includes the construction of a powerhouse, a substation, fuel handling systems and furnaces, the installation of turbines, generators and transformers, control system/SCADA and the laying of transmission lines.
In June 2016, Ramboll was appointed as technical advisor on the project.
Ramboll will prepare tender documents for fuel handling, boiler/flue gas, turbine plants, building and construction, electrical, a control system/SCADA and remaining plant systems.
In June 2017, DONG signed a 20 years power purchase agreement with Novo Nordisk, Novozymes and district heating customers in Kalundborg. The European Union approved aid for the project.
On June 30, 2017, Valmet Corporation was awarded a US$91 million contract to supply bubbling fluidised bed (BFB) technology, automation system, information management and safety systems, a baghouse filter, combustion air humidification, flue gas condensing, condensate treatment and a stack.
Construction is expected to commence in the third quarter of 2017 and scheduled to complete in 2019.
