Rseau de Transport dElectricit (RTE) is planning to develop an electrical transmission line between the Fcamp offshore wind farm and Pont 7 du Havre in France.

The project involves the construction of approximately 50km of 220kv subsea and underground cable transmission line. It includes the laying of two pairs of 220kv submarine cables of 18km long, two pairs of 220kv underground cables of 32km length and the extension of the 220kv Sainneville-sur-Seine substation on a 3ha area and the construction of a new underground 220kv transmission line between Sainneville-sur-Seine substation and Pont 7 du Havre substation, a connection junction between submarine cables and underground cables and installation of transformers and related equipment.

On February 2014, Le Comit National des Pches Maritimes et des levages Marins (CNPMEM) signed a framework agreement for collaboration with RTE for the construction and operation of electrical connections at sea.

The public inquiry process and the declaration of public utility status completed in the first quarter of 2016.

In the first quarter of 2017, Prysmian, a specialist in cable systems for energy and telecommunications, won a contract from RTE to design and supply submarine interconnection cables (the submarine cable links will include high voltage alternating current (HVAC) 220kV three-core cables with cross linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation and single wire armoring) to connect the three offshore wind farm project: Fcamp (498MW) in Seine-Maritime, Courseulles-sur-Mer (450MW) in Calvados, and Saint-Nazaire (480MW) in the Loire-Atlantique region, to the countrys mainland grid.

Construction is expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2017.

Site preparation activities are underway.

Scope


The project involves the construction of approximately a 50km long 220kv submarine and underground transmission line between Fcamp offshore wind farm and Pont 7 du Havre in France.

The US$225 million project includes the following:

1. Laying of a 18km 220kv submarine transmission line
2. Laying of a 32km 220kv underground transmission line
3. Extension of a 220kv substation at Sainneville-sur-Seine substation on a 3ha area
4. Construction of a connection junction between submarine cables and underground cables
5. Laying of underground transmission line between Sainneville-sur-Seine and Pont 7 du Havre substation
6. Installation of transformers
7. Installation of controls systems
8. Installation of related equipment
