Renewable Power Market, Policy Changes, February 2017

Summary

February 2017 saw a number of policy changes in the global renewable power market.

In the Americas, in the US, the Alberta Government set up a rebate program to tap solar resources and the US cities of Pueblo, CO, and Moab, UT, pledged 100% from renewable energy sources by 2035 and 2032, respectively. The Maryland General Assembly voted to restore the Clean Energy Jobs Act. In South America, the Gois state government introduced a solar program in Brazil. Argentina announced 2017 as the year of renewable energy as set out in the decree 9/2017.

In Asia-Pacific, Indonesia announced a second renewable energy regulation. The Indian Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs raised capacity targets from 20,000 Megawatt (MW) to 40,000 MW for solar parks and ultra mega solar power projects by fiscal 2020. China announced investment of $361 billion in renewable energy generation by 2020.

In Europe, Middle East, and Africa, in Germany, the 200 MW solar tender under the EEG 2017 witnessed a low award value. The European Commission (EC) offered support for three French schemes for solar and hydropower. Saudi Arabia floated 300 MW photovoltaic (PV) and 400 MW wind tenders.
